Sapele Hardwood Mihrab - Imaan Masjid - Bolton - Greater Manchester
Location
Imaan Masjid - Bolton, Greater Manchester
Project type
Mihrab and Mimbar
This combined mihrab and mimbar was crafted from solid sapele hardwood and designed as a unified architectural composition. The piece draws its inspiration from the Kiswa-tul-Kaaba in Makkah, interpreted through carved timber. Vertical banding, proportion, and surface depth were carefully considered to echo this sacred reference.
The rich, deep brown tones of the sapele provide a strong visual presence and reference, enhanced by subtle gold highlights that accentuate the Thuluth style calligraphy and geometric ornamentation. The mihrab and mimbar were designed together to ensure continuity of scale, material, and detailing, allowing both elements to sit naturally within the mosque interior.
Precision CNC machining was combined with detailed finishing to achieve clarity in the carved surfaces, while preserving the natural character of the hardwood. The result is a piece that feels both grounded and elevated - rooted in Islamic architectural tradition, yet executed with contemporary discipline.
This installation reflects our commitment and approach to creating architectural focal points that are meaningful and aesthetically pleasing.
